Abby (1974)

There are some weird ass movies out there, I’ve seen tons of them! Once I heard there was essentially a blaxploitation Exorcist movie, I knew I had to hunt that down. That’s where Abby comes into play. What an interesting film haha.
Abby is about a young couple, Abby and her husband, who’s name escapes me, moving into a new house. Soon things get strange and Abby starts acting oddly. Her demeanor changes and she’s super horned up and impulsive. The marriage is strained and she’s seen doctors, none of which can figure it out. Soon they realize she needs an exorcism.
The acting is actually pretty good. Carol Speed does a really good job as Abby, the husband is pretty solid too. I was actually quite shocked at how decent this movie was. I was expecting it to be some weird crappy exploitation movie with clunky camera work and bad acting but everything was pretty solid all around. The special effects really aren’t much to talk about, there really isn’t much need. The makeup is pretty laughable for Abby when she’s possessed though. That really made me laugh.
This movie was pretty decent, I was genuinely surprised. At the same time it isn’t amazing, or even a classic. If you like exploitation movies and corny horror movies, you may enjoy this. Give it a watch, it may surprise you like it did me. I give this a C+.
