I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957)

Directed by Gene Fowler Jr.

Each year I try to watch a horror movie that I’ve heard of before but I have never seen.  I feel like the title of this movie has been a joke for years.  I was a teenage _____.  Became a joke in tv, movies, books, etc.  So I decided to watch one.

This movie is incredibly 50’s.  You get 50’s slang, sockhops, and flat top hair cuts!  The movie is about Tony Rivers, played by Michael Landon.  Tony keeps getting into fights and being a dick for the most part, so he is sent to meet with a doctor dude to help him control his anger.  He is supposed to be hypnotised by this doctor and gets injected with stuff.  These meetings continue until Tony goes full werewolf one day and starts attacking people.

I was a teenage werewolf

That is the basic story, simple, straight forward.  The acting is decent.  Michael Landon brings what you would expect.  He was solid his whole short life and career, especially on Little House on the Prairie.  The supporting cast is ok, basically what you would expect from a 50s teen b movie.  The effects are passable, Tony is a decent looking werewolf, nothing great, nothing horrible.

I’m really not sure how to feel about this.  Thus my review being rather brief.  It isn’t a great movie, but it was fun and watchable.  I didn’t have much for expectations but it was worth a watch.  I give this movie a C.
