Amsterdamned is about a mysterious killer in Amsterdam, rising out of the water and killing people. Now the police detective must hunt him down before he wipes out everyone in the canals. It is a little slasher, a little jaws, a little film noir cop drama, and some action thrown together. This movie is pretty interesting. The acting is quite good, especially from the cop and main character Eric played by Huub Stapel. He’s great and very charismatic and likable. Monique van de Van (pictured right) plays Laura and my lord that woman is stunning, just natural beauty, timeless really.

The kills are somewhat tame. The first one has a good discovery scene. The body is hung upside down on a bridge and a tourist boat full of kids sees it. The body skids across the top of the glass boat and blood is smeared every where while young kids scream. Very effective scene. There is another scene that cracks me up. A girl is sitting on a inflatable raft on the canal, when the killer swims under her. He pushes a big knife up between her legs, and we get a full crotch shot of course. The girl looks down, screams, the killer pushes the knife towards her. They cut to a cat hissing, the girl’s face screaming and fade to black. Could they be any more subtle?! LOL I laughed out loud watching that part.
The boat chase towards the end is awesome. It rivals a lot of car chase scenes. The area they are covering is winding and tight quartered which makes your stomach tense. The killer makes this crazy jump over a bridge and Eric is sitting waiting to get around a boat full of a brass band? That was a little odd haha. The ending was very anticlimatic. You think you know the killer but he ends up being a character you have no idea who they are.

This movie is fun. The action scenes are excellent, the visuals are striking and Amsterdam is just a cool looking city to showcase in a horror film. The acting is pretty solid, the killer has a cool look and the main girl is gorgeous. Basically all you could want in a slasher movie. It does go on a little while and drags at times. I give Amsterdamned a solid B+. Give it a watch and enjoy the theme song at the end, it is a bubbly corny fun song.
