Amityville II: The Possession (1982)
Directed by Damiano Damiani
Ah the Amityville Horror, a “true” story about a father that goes apeshit and kills his family, apparently the house was evil or something. Well this has become some long ass running franchise with tons of sequels and unofficial sequels and copycats and yeah. How is part 2?
Amityville II is about the Montelli family moving into the aforementioned evil house. Paulie from Rocky is here as the dad, and he’s an asshole, surprise! There are a handful of kids, idk, there’s a lot. The oldest brother becomes possessed and goes insane. He bangs his sister, whom is the chick that gets knocked up in Last American Virgin, then rips out the main dude’s heart like Lisa Simpson with Ralph Wiggum. Friggin Gary paid for your abortion, took care of you afterward, then you do him like that?!
But yeah…incest! Then the brother eventually slaughters the whole family, and gets arrested. He goes on trial and a priest begs that the boy is possessed and shouldn’t be blamed. It is the same story as the Conjuring the Devil Made Me Do it. The Priest ends up performing an exorcism and the demonic presence enters him instead.
ugh Gary....sorry bud
The acting is ok. Diane Franklin (even though I can’t help but dislike her because of what she did to Gary) does a solid job as the sister. Burt Young is playing Paulie basically, he’s a dick, beats his wife, screams at the kids, probably drunk most of the time. The mom was meh, dramatic and overacting. The main brother was ok, he showed a little range with being possessed.
The effects were of the time, kind of cheesy but it worked for what it was. His face looks very plastic at times, and the complete change at the end was gruesome, so props for that.
If you like the original, or like possession movies, you may enjoy this. The original is considered a classic and I’m not sure why, it is kind of dull and laughable at times. This one I feel like was better! How often does that happen?! I would give this movie a C+, it was entertaining but still not amazing.
