Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Directed by Joe Chappelle
Halloween has a buttload of movies in its series, like really only a few are really good. There are 13 freaking films in this series….THIRTEEN! So there’s bound to be some stinkers here and there. This is typically towards the top of that list, but is it really that bad?
Halloween 6, is about…let me know if you’ve heard this before…Michael Myers coming to Haddonfield to kill people. Yeah, since people hated Halloween III, they went back to the same stuff over and over. Michael is after Jamie, not played by Danielle Harris this time, but she’s got a baby. Jamie is killed. Tommy finds the baby, Dr. Loomis is en route to Haddonfield and the gang is back at it! In the Myers house we have The Strode family…for some reason. Kara is the daughter, the dad is some asshole, the mom looks like Dan Carvey’s Church Lady, and Kara has a son named Danny that seems important but he’s really not. She also has a brother named Tim, he’s there too. Dr Wynn, a former colleague of Loomis is the man in black and he controls Michael. Tommy knows how to stop the Cult of Thorn, with some rocks with drawings on them. Yeah it is as cool as it sounds. They save the baby, get Danny back and Tommy’s rocks keep MIchael as a statue. Hooray its done.
Wellllll isn’t that special?!
The acting is meh. Paul Rudd plays Tommy and my lord is he awful in this movie. Paul Rudd is great, but not as Tommy, he’s so monotone and boring that it kills me. Marianne Hagan as Kara is passable but her character is so vanilla that you don’t care. Donald Pleasance is back as Loomis and he’s great, he always is, but he’s old as shit and sounds tired as hell. It would be his last appearance, and you can see that. Mitchell Ryan, a common “that guy” is Dr. Wynn his character is meh, who really cares?
The kills and effects are decent, I guess, there isn’t much to look at really. Depending on which version you watch, either the theatrical or the producer’s cut. I watched the theatrical, the producer’s cut has Kara’s dad getting electrocuted until his head explodes, he’s a bastard so he deserved that shit. There are throw away kills that cut away and you see splatter, which is always shit. A girl gets her head slammed into a coat hook by Michael, that was cool. Other than those, there is a shock jock alla Howard Stern, that gets strung up into a tree and drips blood everywhere.
Is this a good entry? No! Is it the worst in the series? Far from it. Both Rob Zombie entries and Resurrection are by far worse in my opinion. Part 5 even rivals this. The acting is kind of lousy, Michael is barely in it, Loomis is barely in it. We just have to stare at Kara and Tommy constantly. I give this a D, its bad but far from the worst Halloween.
