V/H/S Halloween (2025)

Directed by Bryan M Ferguson, Casper Kelly, Michelin Pitt-Norman, RH Norman, Alex Ross Perry, Paco Plaza, Anna Zlokovic

It seems like every year there is a new VHS movie on shudder, and I love it!  These are usually a lot of fun, aside from VHS Viral which was booty cheeks.  So another year, another VHS anthology.

DIET PHANTASMA

VHS Halloween’s wraparound is called Diet Phantasma, which is about a company testing their new pop.  Yes pop, not soda, I’m from Michigan we say pop.  Anyway, each test goes horribly wrong and the person drinking it dies in crazy ways.  A can grows tentacles and grabs a dude, the can spray acid in a dude’s face, and other crazy shit.  As the interludes go on, they keep adjusting the formula, until they reveal it is made from poltergeists, causing the last person to become possessed.  It was decent, not great but the wraparounds are never the highlight.

It is a solid C.

COOCHIE COOCHIE COO

vhs halloween

Is about two college age girls going trick-or-treating.  Before they wrap up their night, they go to one last house.  When they knock the door opens and they walk in.  They grab some candy and soon they realize they’re trapped in the house and there are two squirming fetuses and milk on the floor.  They desperately seek for a way out, they stumble across these bizarre babylike adults who all have distorted babylike faces.  A demonic looking woman referred to as Mommy chase them, eventually she captures them and they’re stuck.  Both girls turn into adult babies and Mommy laughs maniacally.  This segment was really nuts and full of tension.  It was rather disgusting at times.  The girls were really obnoxious so I didn’t mind that they lost haha.

And I have to, but “ROCK N ROLL COOCHIE COO!” DAMMIT RICK DERRINGER!

This segment deserves a B+.

UT SUPRA SIC INFRA (As Above So Below)

This whole segment is in Spanish, I always struggle with those, which seem to be a trend in this series.  I found it rather confusing and a bit of a let down after the first segment.  Not sure, I had a hard time paying attention.  A group enter a mansion in Madrid, it has some past with bizarre murders and being owned by a medium.  Weird shit starts happening and one guy gets possessed.  Again I had a hard time with this one, it was kind of cliche and I wasn’t up to reading the movie.

I give this one a D.

FUN SIZE

Wacky!  That is the best way to describe this one haha.  A group of adults leave a party, and decided to go trick or treating.  They come across a house and there is a bowl of candy with a “one per person” sign.  The candy is some weird stuff they’ve never seen.  They grab a bar and it is shaped like a dick, they all laugh.  There are no google results for the candy, one guy tries to grab a second piece and they get pulled into the bowl by a hand.  Once inside, they’re in a parallel reality, being chased by this goofy looking mascot named Fun Size.  The second piece of candy guy, Austin, gets pulled into a machine, where he gets chopped up and covered in chocolate, being made into the strange candy.  The rest try to escape, and they succumb to the same fate.  Soon a couple kids grab too many pieces and get pulled in.  This movie was insane.  I couldn’t help but laugh at the mascot guy, he was so goofy but funny.  This was a very original idea, and I loved it.

I gave this one an A.

KIDPRINT

This one is about a tech company that records kids saying their name, giving some info in the idea of protecting local kids from going missing, and finding them.  Soon kids go missing, and the store owner sees a feed of kids being tortured, by his coworker.  The owner finds where the killer is and they have a tussle.  Of course, Bruce the killer wins and frames the owner, Tim with the murders.  He is shown later saying he will run the store now.  So the cycle continues.  Idk, I wasn’t super into this one.  The idea of killing kids was bonkers, that never happens.  The effects were pretty solid but the story was meh to me.

I think the fact that I could only find two screen stills from this segment shows you all you need to know....

I give this a D, it had potential.

HOME HAUNT

This revolves around a family setting up their house as a haunted attraction.  The guy’s son cares less and less each year and thinks it is lame.  He convinces the son to do it one more time, and they sneak into a store and buy some old spooky record of halloween music, they steal the record and take it home.  Once playing it, it causes everyone to bolt and scream.  Suddenly the monsters from the decor, come to life and attack, tons of people die.  The family survives and a witch grabs the camera, recording herself killing trick or treaters.  This one was kind of dull, until the end.  I wasn’t super crazy about it but it was at least interesting.

This gets a C from me.

These are pretty tough to review because they’re essentially like 5 movies together.  Some segments I enjoy, others I don’t.  I will say this series has had pretty good quality and I hope they keep going.  Fun Size was my favorite because it was just so insane and funny.  Give it a watch if you like the others.
