Some movies live rent free in your brian because you saw the vhs cover art at a rental place. Carnosaur is one of those movies for me. As a kid I was OBSESSED with dinosaurs and I wanted to see this, but my dad (showing better logic than when he let me watch Chucky) refused to let me. So here it is 2025, I’m closing in on 39 years old and I’m watching Carnosaur dammit.
Carnosaur is about a genetically engineered dinosaur that escapes a bioengineering company and kills people. Plan and simple plot. This beat Jurassic Park to the screen, in this case the straight to video screen but still. If Jurassic Park left you wanting more dinos ripping people to shreds and devouring them, then watch Carnosaur! There is lots of gore and carnage in this movie and it is awesome. Also, how can you not love a B movie that has Clint Howard in it?
The acting is actually decent. Diane Ladd is in this?! Kind of funny she was in this but ok, Raphael Sbarge plays “Doc” Smith, and he puts in a decent performance as well. You know what to expect with Clint Howard, he’s a character actor with tons of experience. The dinosaur is really where this movie shines. There is a giant puppet used for the dino, and it is cheesy and awesome. On IMDB this currently has a 3.7/10, I’m not sure how. I really enjoyed this movie for what it was, a campy and bloody killer Dinosaur movie. The gore is pretty nuts at times and I love it. Lots of blood, severed limps, guts and what you would expect if a dinosaur attacked you.
If you are a dinosaur freak like me or you love Roger Corman cheesefests, then Carnosaur is your type of movie. It really deserves more than a 3.7 on imdb, cmon now. I give Carnosaur a C+. No it isn’t a masterpiece but man is it fun.
