Marshmallow (2025)
Directed by Daniel DelPurgatorio
Very rarely does a horror movie come out that catches me off guard and surprises me. My buddy sang the praises of this, and he’s a horror aficionado so I had to check it out.
I am staying away from any kind of spoiler in this review because this movie has some twists and turns that I did not see coming. A young boy goes off to camp after his grandpa died and he’s super shy. He meets a few kids and befriends them, things start looking up other than a couple of the bullies there. Kids start disappearing and they wonder why. There is a campfire tale of an evil doctor/surgeon that mutilated his family and the main kid is worried. Soon odd things start happening and the main boy claims the doctor is real. Shit hits the fan and the doctor starts taking all the kids. That’s when we see the real twist…
The acting is pretty good. The kids weren’t too bad which is a lot for child actors. Corbin Bernsen, ol Roger Dorn himself plays the grandpa for like 5 mins before he kicks the bucket. The counselors are decent, theres the pretty girl that is nice, the meathead jerk, his gf that always wants it, and a kind black guy that is the responsible one.
I didn’t see the final twist coming, the acting was decent and the tension built up well. This is a pretty original movie and I appreciated that. It was a little slow at times, but I give Marshmallow a solid B.
