Weapons (2025)
Directed by Zach Cregger
Sometimes a horror movie comes out and it blows up, Weapons was the latest to do so. Everyone was hyping it up big time, talking about how its super scary and amazing. Typically when this happens, the movie fails to live up to expectations. How was it?
Weapons is about a class of kids that keep going missing, the teacher of course is blamed but she didn’t do anything. So what is causing the kids to freak out and Naruto run around? To avoid any spoilers, stop reading. Its a witch, a witch that cast a spell to enchant kids and to rejuvenate herself or command them to kill for her. Yeah it was somewhat surprising but at the end of the day I was a little disappointed. Again, this was so hyped that it was never going to live up to the expectations I had.
The acting is pretty solid, Josh Brolin and Julia Garner were both really good. Amy Madigan plays Gladys, the aunt of Alex, the only child left in the class and she’s the witch. The Gladys character was especially good, the gaudy makeup made me laugh and think of my great aunt Pauline. I think everyone has the garish and gaudy dressing aunt, props to them because they don’t give a fuck what we think. The special effects were decent as well. I really enjoyed when Gladys was ripped to shreds by the kids at the end, that was a fun way to kill her off. This movie bordered on being too long. I fully believe in having horror movies be under 2 hours, this one clocks in at 2 hours 8 minutes, so not a huge deal.
Weapons is a solid horror film, that was/is a little too overhyped. I enjoyed what it was, and the quality of the performances. I’d give this a solid B+, I was just a little disappointed with the payoff at the end. Also, the Naruto, arms back style running was just silly to me.
