Heart Eyes (2025)

Man, 2025 has been a good year for horror! How many great movies have dropped this year? Heart Eyes is kind of a throwback but with a twist. A slasher movie, that is also a rom com?! It really shouldn’t work, but somehow…it does.
Heart Eyes is about a girl named Ally, she meets a guy named Jay at work and they have some weird chemistry together. At the same time there is a killer called the Heart Eyes Killer in Seattle that murders couples. Ally and Jay initially dislike each other, but grow closer together once the killer is after them. Will they survive? Will they end up together? It is a weird mix lol.
I think really where this movie succeeds is the nice balance of humor, romance, and horror. The two main leads are pretty solid and do have true chemistry together it seems. The killer has a cool look. LIke the name, the mask he wears has heart shaped eyes that are lit up in pink.
The kills are pretty decent, we get some gore, but nothing too crazy. I enjoyed the nice variety of ways the HEK kills people. Some stabbings, impalements, crossbow shots, and other fun stuff. The effects are solid as well, but this is the type of movie that relies more heavily on comedy and dialogue more than gore.
I enjoyed this movie because it was a fresh take on two stale genres. The comedy and horror mixed nicely together and the will they wont they stuff was fun. If you’re looking for something new, then check this out. I give Heart Eyes a B.
