Saw X follows John Kramer going to Mexico to get an experimental surgery to cure his brain cancer. Soon after he realizes it was all a scam and the “doctor” has been ripping terminally ill people off for years. Now Kramer uses his skills as Jigsaw to get his revenge and get the money back from the con artists. The twist on the formula is what made me really open my eyes during watching this. It was so refreshing that they took what worked with the movie, and found a way to make it more fresh and new.
In typical Saw fashion, the story has lots of twists and turns and have you wondering how John will be able to keep going due to his failing health and because the tables get turned on him at the end. The Doctor is able to call her boyfriend Parker whom comes to the rescue. Don’t worry John has a plan…
The traps? That is what we are all here for right?
Ow My Eyes
At the start we get an elaborate one with a high powered shop vac hooked up to a person’s eyes that John saw stealing from a patient at the hospital. The guy has to turn a dial that will break all his fingers on his hand before the shop vac sucks his eyes out. The guy fails and the effect is gruesome in true Saw fashion.
Arm Wires
John captures Diego, whom was pretending to be a doctor and he hooks pipe bombs up to his arms and scalpels taped to his hands. He has 3 minutes to cut the wires out with the scalpels or his arms explode. This one was super gory and Diego passes the test.
Wire Saw
John gets Amanda to help him capture the other people involved. Valentina is put in a contraption where her neck is surrounded by a wire saw. She has 3 minutes to use a wire saw to cut her leg off and use a suction device to extract bone marrow to trigger her release. She fails and her head is lopped off. This one was rather visceral as well haha.
Drill
Mateo is forced to drill into his own skull and remove some of his brain tissue, that will disolve in a beaker full of acid, which will free him from a heated mask that will burn his face off. This one was rather meh to me. Also he gets 3 minutes to do it which doesn’t even seem possible.
Toasty
Gabriela, a girl that John initially had a connection with is next. She is shacked by the wrists and pulled up into the air with some industrial heat thing, idk but it has radiation coming from it. She has to use a sledgehammer to break her hands from the shackles. She does pass the test, but dies because the Doctor turns the tables on John and lets her die.
Blood Boarding
John is now shackled to a machine with a young boy. The two are opposite of each other and must use a lever to drop tons of blood directly onto their face, basically waterboarding themselves. John constantly tells Amanda that everything is ok. The doctor leaves with her boyfriend Parker to get all the money John took from them, and the room locks. This was gross.
Hot Boxing
The doctor and Parker are trapped in the room and chemical gas is pumping in. There is one port where they can stick their head out, so they fight over it. The doctor kills Parker and John leaves with the boy and Amanda.
The ending. Saw movies always have good endings right? Typically at least. This one is no exception. I’ll try my best to explain. The Doctor improvises a rope from Valentina’s intestines and loops it around the cart with her phone on it. She makes a call and Amanda takes it from her. Soon Parker shows up. Parker is originally thought to be another victim of the scam, but is in with the Doctor. They pull a gun on John and force him into the last trap. Like previously mentioned, John prepared for this and they get their due.
I really enjoyed this one. It went back to the roots of Saw and had a good story to it. It was able to bring a different angle to the typical story and I loved it. I think this is a top 3 Saw movie. If you have a chance check it out. It gets a A- from me. Well worth your time.
