Wraparound
First segement is the wrap around which is a mockumentary about a shape shifting creature named Rory. I knew a guy named Rory, let me tell you he wasn’t scary at all. This wrap around it was kind of interesting and kept me wanting more while this went on. Soon Rory changes form and stays dormat for a while. Surprise, Rory starts killing people and this isn’t anything special. The creature does aerobics at the end which is funny. I give it a C.

No Wake
This is the first true segement showing a group of 20 somethings going to a lake to camp, and take the boat out. In the short time we actually get to know the characters and I enjoy most of them. Some are childish but hey they’re in their 20s I was a douche in my early 20s. While on the boat they start getting picked off by a sniper, which was a crazy turn but thats not it. Everyone dies, but they wake up, everyone is fine. They make it to shore to find the two that stayed behind are still dead. They also see VII on the side of their camper. They realize the water has some weird ability to resurrect the dead. They make plans to hunt down the sniper and kill them, segment ends. This was pretty good I just hate how it ended with no resolution. For now… I give it a B.
God of Death
It starts off with a Mexican news show and then BOOM earthquake. Rescue teams come and take the survivors. They try to find their way through the wreckage and weird shit starts happening. One gets possessed and kills the other ones. It is your typical demonic possession movie nothing too spectacular and the subtitles were a bit tiresome. I give it a C. Could’ve been worse.

TKNOGD
This one SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS. It is some weird art piece on stage with some goofy woman talking about god being dead because of technology. She berates everyone for about 5 minutes saying their love for technology has killed the traditional gods. She then puts on a VR headset and taunts the “god of technology”. Soon a shitty looking VR creature rips her to pieces and she dies. F. Enough said.
Ambrosia
It’s an 80s family reunion! Complete with goofy uncle and out of touch parents. Oh and they mention Beta, which is funny in a movie called VHS aka Beta’s main competitor. The annoying little brother shoots the sister with a water gun he got from “the girl in the camper” hmmm. Things take an odd turn when they give a speech and mention the seven, which is shown on their wrists with VII. Wait a minute…It is some family tradition to take 7 lives to become immortal or something. This links up to No Wake. Soon the cops show up and they bust out some guns and have a gunfight with the authorities. We see a girl get killed, come back and kill people again. It is kind of crazy. It comes to an end with Robin from No Wake filling a water pistol with lake water. It all comes together now. I give it a B.

Dream Killer
Starts off with a brutal murder of a woman complete with throat slitting an eye slicing that would make Fulci proud. Soon we see some cops at the scene and one recognizes everything in the house and realizes it is the same house in a tape that was sent to the station. Originally passed off as a slasher film wannabe the detective didn’t give it much thought. Odd thing is this tape came weeks ago. Another murder, sent on tape days before. Same story again. They arrest this goth kid, his dad works at the police station. He said the murders started in his dreams, then were showing up on some channel he tapes late at night on VHS, he wanted beta but his dad said it cost too much. Ok another mention of Beta lol. I also agree with the goth kid, beta does look better! The cop ends up realizing his partner is the one doing the killings and confronts him, he shoots the cop. Bobby the killer goes to the station and goes on a rampage. The goth kid kills him. This one was ok, the gore was crazy and not cgi which is great. I don’t get the explanation of how this all worked, maybe I missed it. I give this a B-.
All in all VHS85 was decent. It had a lot of things going for it, good effects and some interesting stories. I still think VHS2 is the best one, the original one a close second. I do like that they keep making these because they’re fun. As a whole, I give this one a B. It was fun and there was only one truly bad entry.
