Frankenhooker (1990)
Directed by Frank Henenlotter
There are a fair amount of horror movies where the title tells you exactly what you’re in for, Frankenhooker is one of those movies. Now I love Basket Case, it is awesomely bad, so is Brain Damage. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Frankenhooker.
Frankenhooker revolves around a guy named Jeffrey and his fiance that dies. He becomes obsessed with bringing her back to life, using Manhattan street walkers. Yeah he grabs pieces of each hooker and makes a perfect woman. Similar to Pieces, which is awesome. This movie though has a lot of comedy, which is typical for Henenlotter.
The special effects are great, low budget garbage that you have to love. The girls smoke explosive crack which is hilarious. They explode in to pieces soon after smoking it, the effects are cheesy bad, but makes me laugh so damn top notch! The acting is pretty solid, James Lorinz plays Jeffrey and he’s pretty unhinged at times which is fun. Patty Mullen plays Elizabeth and when she’s reanimated as the Frankenhooker she is hilarious. Wanna date? Wanna party? The facial expressions are cartoonish. If you like crazy goofy humor, then you’ll enjoy this.

Crack....it's explosive!
I really had a good time with this film. It is in the same vein as Basket Case and Brain Damage. If you like those then you’ll appreciate this. The humor is goofy, the effects are cheap and cheesy, and the acting is surprisingly decent. I give Frankenhooker a B+.
