Top 10 Craziest 80s Slasher Special Effects
10. The Burning: Lots of great kills and the raft scene is one of slasher film’s best. Savini really steps up the violence from Friday the 13th in this movie.
9. The New York Ripper: Lucio Fulci always has great effects and gore. The eye slicing scene made me wince. This is a brutal movie.
8. The Prowler: Hey it’s Tom Savini again! Yeah he’s the master. The Prowler has lots of good kills, the head explosion and knife through the top of the head are the money shots.
7. The Mutilator: The kills are over the top, in many ways but still very effective and brutal. The off board motor and the fishing gaff are the two best.
6. The House by the Cemetery: Another Fulci movie. This one has some crazy kills in it, some might be daydreams or fever dreams if you will, but still the effects used are incredible.
5. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter: Savini and some of his best work. Jason’s death is legendary for special effects and gore. Lots of blood, lots of gore.
4. Pieces: With a name like Pieces, you know you’re in for some gore. The scene where the chainsaw rips through the girl’s side is cringeworthy. The bathroom gore scene is shocking almost every time you see it.
3. Blood Rage: This movie is ape shit bananas at times. The gore is almost off tone because at times this movie can be a little goofy. The kills are nuts in this one. Also it is one of the few Thanksgiving slashers.
2. Intruder: This movie is interesting haha. Some of the camera angles are odd as hell, but the kills are INSANE. A bandsaw cutting a guy’s head in half? A box crusher ripping a guy’s head off? Intruder’s got it.
1. Nightmare: From the start of this movie, you know that you’re in for a bloodbath. They actually credited Tom Savini as doing the effects, he did not but man these are top notch. If you haven’t seen this, watch it. It is also called Nightmares in a Damaged Brain.
