Terrifier 2 (2022)
Directed by Damien Leone
I love slashers, I enjoy a good kill. Everyone seems to have a big raging boner over this movie. Oh Art the Clown is the greatest slasher villain. He makes Jason and Michael look like bitches. Blah blah blah. I saw Terrifier, it was gruesome kills lightly sewn together with an incredibly weak “plot”. Was the sequel different?
Terrifier 2 follows a girl named Sienna. Sienna has a brother named Jonathan, and they live with their recently widowed mother. Halloween is approaching and Art the Clown is back on the rampage. Now he’s apparently supernatural? Idk but Sienna keeps having visions of him, her room gets set on fire because of it because I guess he’s Freddy Krueger? Anyway again with this one, the plot isn’t important, it is stronger in this but still who cares right?
The effects. The reason why this movie gets mentioned. The kills are insane, insanely brutal, gorey, unrealistic and nuts. He rips apart a guy’s skull with his hands and pulls out the brain. He snaps limbs, mutilates bodies and basically turns people to mush. It is what you expect from this series. Everyone praises the first one’s splitting scene, but lets face it, it was taken from Bone Tomahawk.
The acting is ok. The main girl is pretty solid, her brother is annoying and the mom is a bit wooden at times. I HATE that they call their mom “mommy” and refer to their dad as “daddy”. The brother is 12 and the sister is what? Like 20? 18? I’m not quite sure but she’s definitely too old for mommy and daddy talk. Art the Clown is creepy, but I have a hard time taking him seriously as a slasher killer. He just looks soo doofy to me. The supernatural element wasn’t needed at all, it is confusing that lame. The end of the movie falls apart so bad because of it. Also this movie is almost 2 and a half hours long. Dear Lord! A slasher should NEVER be longer than 90 mins, tops. It feels like almost 3 movies.
Terrifier 2 has some impressive special effects and the music is pretty good. It has a definite 80s feel to the score, and I enjoyed that. The acting was ok, but the plot again was lacking. The kills become just ridiculous and annoying by the time the marathon runtime comes to an end. I’m happy a horror movie is making an impact and making money, it helps the genre, but I really hope we don’t get a lot of copycats trying to be this movie, because it isn’t good. I give this a D+.
