31 Recommendation: The Prowler (1981) Directed by Joseph Zito
If you have read any of my reviews in the past, you know I love slasher movies, especially 80s slasher movies. With so many in existence its difficult to find a decent one. The Prowler is one of the stronger entries in the genre. It has a cool looking killer, decent characters, solid acting and great gore. Basically everything you want in an 80s slasher movie, The Prowler provides. No spoilers in this recommendation, just what I like about it and why I think you should give it a glance.
The Prowler, first of all has awesome, awesome special effects by master Tom Savini. The blood, kills, and overall gore are exquisite. The characters aren’t super strong, but they do a good job of making you care about the couple main characters. You don’t get a memorable final girl in the film but the final scenes are fun and intense. Of course with most slasher films you get a cast of cute girls that don’t mind showing their tits. The shower scene has a girl with some of the nicest boobs you’ll ever see in an 80s slasher flick, so if you’re into that, then hell watch it! The killer is dressed head to toe in military fatigues, complete with hood and helmet covering his face. His main weapons are a pitch fork and a bayonet. The atmosphere isn’t too special but the emotionless killer adds to the intensity. The only real beef I have with the movie is the end scene, if you check this out you’ll know what I mean. There is a great kill and assumed ending then boom another scene? It totally ruins the scene prior and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
In conclusion The Prowler is a fun and solid slasher film, I would suggest it to fans of the genre or fans of Tom Savini. You’ll enjoy the effects and the brutality of the killer. The boobs, kills, blood, and corniness are on point for what you want to see in a film like this. Last time I checked this movie is available on Amazon Prime to stream instantly so give it a look. I give The Prowler a solid B, its not a masterpiece, and its not bad.
