Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1992)

Directed by David Price

The original Children of the Corn movie is admittedly not a great movie, like at all. It is, for lack of a better word, corny. The acting is decent but the context is laughable at times. The special effects are extremely dated and hilarious. So it had to get a sequel right? Well how about an ass load of sequels? Of course it did…

This one is basically the same. Seriously. The town of Gatlin, Nebraska is being tormented by a cult of children that wait for them in the corn rows. That’s it. Sound familiar? Well what if I told you it was handled a million times worse than before? Want to watch it? Yeah, I don’t blame you. There’s some reporter and his son that come to town to write a story about what happened before. Cliche.

The acting? My lord. Let’s get this out of the way. HORRIBLE. Some characters aren’t awful. Terence Knox plays Garrett the reporter, he’s decent, I’ll give him that. Garrett’s son Danny played by Paul Scherrer is passable as well. Christie Clark plays Danny’s love interest, you might recognize her as the little sister from Freddy’s Revenge. She is ok, she’s pretty but still a little wooden at times. Now the main kid, Micah, is played by Ryan Bollman. Ryan Bollman HAMS the fuck out of this. My lord kid, take a step back and turn the frantic knob down. We are talking Dr Loomis Halloween 5 levels of intense. He screams at the top of his lungs most of the movie, especially at the end. He has a super punchable face as well. For the effects, some of the kills are decent, some are insane, others are straight up dumb. For the dumb, there’s a scene with a old lady in a wheel chair that Micah takes control of with an RC controller and she gets hit by a truck, launching her into a store. That wasn’t funny, wasn’t scary and just off the wall. So incredibly off tone that it takes you out of the movie haha. The effects? On par with the original….from 8 years prior. EIGHT YEARS. We still get the weird filtered scenes of someone watching people through the corn. Just ugh.

While the original is flawed and charming, the sequel is just awful. I can’t express how weird and awkward this movie was. Want to know something crazy? IT MADE MONEY! It cost 900K and made like 6.5M. HOW? I give this movie a D-. I have seen worse, but not much worse haha.
