Blades (1989)

What did I just watch? Basically it is Jaws with a lawnmower. Also it is made by Troma so you know it is shit. Is it boring though? NEVER! Troma is anything but boring!
Blades is about a killer lawnmower that is terrorizing a local golf course. Plain and simple plot. We get a pair of golf pros that team up with a grizzled old professional lawnmower killer? I’m not quite sure who he is but hell, he is just Quint from Jaws. Most of the movie we don’t see the mower, just hear it and see blood spray. This is one of the most idiotic ideas for a horror movie that I’ve ever heard but it was so hammy that I liked it.
The effects are fairly decent. It isn’t Savini levels of gore quality but definitely better than average. The mower is an old rotary blade mower, google it, or trust me I really don’t care. People get chopped up, adults, old people, kids doesn’t matter, they’re mulched. Gotta love Troma for just not giving a shit. Not giving a shit about killing kids, dialogue, just anything really in general. The acting is hammy as you could imagine but not purposefully terrible like some Troma films. Not sure how else to say that, but take something like this and something along the lines of Class of Nuke Em High, big difference.
This would make a good double bill with Blood Hook, the humor and horror are on the same level. I had a good time watching this goofiness. I would suggest you check it out if you like movies like Troll 2 or Toxic Avenger. Blades gets a C+ from me, it is bad but far from boring.
