Old (2021)
Directed by M Night Shamalamadingdong
TWIST. I’d love to see Shammy do a movie that DIDN’T have a twist, now that would be the ultimate twist right? This movie came recommended from a coworker, so I decided to check it out. The premise was interesting so what the hell right?
The plot is a group of people go to a secluded beach. The soon find out that while there, they’re aging rapidly and out of control. Very interesting, to say the least. The kids go from 6 to 16 in about a day. It is almost like a time warp or something. With aging so rapidly if they’re cut, it heals in a minute. They find themselves trapped and anything they do to escape goes wrong. With all of his movies, there’s a twist so I’ll spare you of that since the movie is so new.
Old has some decent acting. No one you’ve ever heard of stars in it, or at least no one I’ve ever heard of. Mostly everyone has an accent, so theres that right? No one is clunky or wooden, no one is incredible. Everyone is basically on the same level. The special effects are fun, with the aging and wounds magically closing. Some of the dialogue is horrible, I laughed a couple times especially at the beginning. Really what makes this movie decent is the plot itself. It’s a really imaginative story that is paced fairly well.
This is another movie where I enjoyed it, but I can’t see myself going back to watch it a lot. Nothing is really exceptional about any aspect of the movie. The acting is mid level, the dialogue is clunky at times, but the story is decent. I give Old a C+. I feel like thats my favorite grade this year…
