Oct. 3rd: Deadly Spawn (1983)

The Deadly Spawn (1983)

Directed by Douglas McKeown

Sometimes, especially with horror, a poster or VHS cover will pull us in.  That is the case of The Deadly Spawn.  I mean look at the damn poster, its amazing.  Does the movie live up?  Well…

The plot is an alien species crashes to earth and starts slaughtering everything in its sight.  Basic as it gets guys.  The monsters/aliens are these large worm like things with hundreds of teeth.  They have these long tentacles that wrap around people and pull them in.  The creature is awesome as hell, honestly.

The acting is wooden and force.  No one really does anything great in the acting department lol.  The special effects are where this movie shines.  The creature design is awesome, the gore is pretty intense at times and the kills are good.  It is your typical blood thirsty alien killing people story, but the ending has balls.  THEY KILL A DAMN KID!  Also when you think the alien is dead, you’re wrong.  I love the whole world is fucked endings to horror, it takes balls. And that’s what this movie has, balls.

Did it live up to the poster?  No.  It is not a good movie, the acting is shit but the special effects and gore help.  I was entertained, when the alien was on screen.  The story was boring at times and dragged on in parts.  I’m not sure I’ll watch it again but I’ll always look at the poster cuz its super badass.  I give this a solid C-.
