Zombi 3 (1988)

Directed by Lucio Fulci

Italian horror, man what to say?  It’s intense, confusing, gory, mean spirited and sometimes kinda fun.  I love Fulci’s Zombi 2, its super crazy and the zombie effects are great.  Call me dumb, but I wasn’t aware there were a couple sequels to it until like 5 years ago.  I got FlixFling lately, it’s a mixed bag, I’ll talk about that later.  They have Zombi 3 and 4 on the app, so I was curious and hoped it would live up to the first one.

This basically is the cliché zombie movie story.  Strange virus is found in a guy, and they burn the body, the virus enters the atmosphere or something and causes the dead to rise, and attack people, turning them into the living dead, rinse repeat.  Now an epidemic has started and the surviving people of this island are trying to get out alive, while dealing with zombies and the government set to exterminate anything in their way.  It is nothing monumental, but as far as zombie movies go, you could do worse.

The acting is the typical from Italian horror, its wooden, awkward and a lot of it is dubbed over.  The dialogue is pretty bad, nearly all over the movie.  It is really painful at times to listen to.  I’m not sure what it is with Italian movies but the plots are hard to follow, they give no explanation for anything, seriously every Italian horror movie I’ve seen does this lol.

While the dialogue, acting, and story may be lacking, much like other Italian horrors the special effects are great.  There is a fair amount of gore and the zombies look awesome.  There is one scene with zombie birds that made me laugh out loud.  Another scene involving a pregnant woman and a zombie hand popping out of her belly and ripping a girls face up was crazy as shit, gotta love Italian horror haha.  The zombie kills are gruesome fun, and the flesh eating is intense.  If you want blood and gore in your zombie movies check this series out, its plentiful.

I loved Zombi 2, hell I own it.  Zombi 3 is not on that level, it isn’t the worst zombie movie I’ve seen but it isn’t the best.  It isn’t bad enough to laugh at, but it has its fair share of bat shit crazy moments to blow your mind.  I love a good bloody zombie movie, so I was entertained at least, but it is far from great.  I give this sequel a B-.  The pregnant lady belly hand boosts it up a little for me.
