Longlegs (2024)
Directed by Osgood Perkins
Not very often do I cover movies that are basically brand new. I love 80s horror, everyone knows that and thats the bulk of the movies that I cover on this blog and on the podcast….and youtube show. Anyways, Longlegs was intriguing to me so I gave it a watch.
Longlegs is about an FBI agent hunting down a serial killer, which leads to the occult and a strange occurance from her childhood. Nicolas Cage stars as Longlegs, and my lord he’s full on Cage unhinged in this haha. The looks of his character are disturbing, the white hair, pale makeup and soft voice are unnerving. Maika Monroe plays the FBI agent and she’s relatively good, but kind of lacking emotion at times, a little void of expression, if you will. This movie really reminded me of Silence of the Lambs. A young, female FBI agent is hunting down a serial killer. It does vary at times, such as the case being subconciously linked to a supressed event from her past, and her mother’s involvement.

The cinematograpy in this is pretty stellar, its definitely a visually appealing movie. The music is also quite decent, nothing incredible but definitely something that adds to the atmosphere. My main issue with this is the pacing. While I enjoy a good slow burn (see Suspiria) I do have issue with movies that give you so little and save it all for the end, then they don’t pay off well. The ending of this movie, left a lot to be desired and I could see her mom’s involvement coming so it wasn’t much of a twist for me.

Theres an assload of horror being dropped every year, most of which falls short or just goes for nostalgia and fails. Longlegs, while similar to Silence of the Lambs, did stand out to me and maybe the trailer ruined my expectations? The trailer made the movie seem much more scary than it actually was. I give this a solid B. The acting is good, it just falls apart at the end for me.
