A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989)
Directed by Stephen Hopkins

I love A Nightmare On Elm Street and most of the sequels. Yes MOST. Part 5 is somewhat of a mixed bag. I’m not sure how I have any of these movies left to talk about on the blog but alas I haven’t covered this one.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child is about Alice, returning from part 4, becoming pregnant and Freddy is using her son’s dreams to enter the real world. The plot is pretty imaginative, the movie is rather lame. For a movie, about a killer, that kills people in their dreams…I fell asleep watching this the first TWO times I watched it. Ok so since, I’ve seen this probably 4 times…unfortunately. Most recently I watched on a vhs that smelled like 4 cartons of Newports, and me being the weakling I am, it flared up my allergies. Anyway, this installment in the series is rather boring. I struggle with it every time, which is a shame because I really like Lisa Wilcox as Alice and she’s even more of a tough strong woman in this. The rest of the characters are just flat.

The kills are underwhelming in this movie. We get Greta, the aspiring model that gets force fed by Freddy, it is lame and disgusting (pictured right). Dan turns into a cyborg motorcycle and crashes into an explosion, very odd. Then we get the comic dude, who’s name escapes me and I don’t care to look it up, he gets killed by Super Freddy. Yes, Super Freddy in a dream about comic books….weak. There isn’t much to keep you coming back to this. The little boy whom plays Alice’s future son is creepy looking and wooden as hell.

The end and how Freddy meets his demise is LAME.  Basically Jacob, Alice’s son fights back and takes him out.  Everyone hates on Freddy’s Dead, and yes that movie sucks too but this one is just plain boring.  It brings nothing new to the table and drags a lot throughout.  I give this one a D+, Robert Englund is amazing again as Freddy but as a whole this is one of the worst.

Jacob as Freddy or with the mumps idk
