October 22nd: My Top 10 Favorite Godzilla Movies

My Top 10 Favorite Godzilla Movies

From a very young age I loved dinosaurs. I could pronounce all the names, I knew if they ate meat or plants, and I drew pictures of them all the time. So naturally when I saw Godzilla vs The Thing I was hooked. Basically a giant dinosaur that destroys buildings and fights other giant creatures, the idea was so awesome to me that I needed more and more. Luckily theres an ass load of Godzilla movies, but finding them in the early 90s was difficult. Today you can get and watch any Godzilla movie you want, but back then you were at the mercy of tv programming and whatever Walmart or Kmart had on the shelf. With almost 30 years of Godzilla watching experience, here is my all time favorite movies.

  1. Godzilla vs Megalon (1973)

A race of underground people send a giant bug that spits bombs and hand drills to the surface to destroy the people on the surface. Megalon wrecks havoc until Godzilla show sup and battles him. Gigan shows up and teams with Megalon against Godzilla. A boy and his father bring their robot Jet Jaguar to help Godzilla. Jet Jaguar is so lame, he just gets pummeled by the other dinosaurs. It is probably the most corny Godzilla movie but it is fun.

  1. Godzilla vs The Seamonster aka Ebirah Horror of the Deep (1966)

One of the first Godzilla movies I owned. Godzilla fights a giant crawfish named Ebirah. Its pretty corny but fun. Basically Godzilla just whips his ass the whole movie.

  1. Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975)

Mechagodzilla returns to battle Godzilla with the help of Titanosaurus. A scientist helps the aliens rebuild Mecha. Titanosaurus is basically a sea monster version of Godzilla, but his only real weapon is a big fin on his tail that causes hurricane type winds. 2 on 1 battle, tons of explosions lots of monster battles.

  1. Godzilla vs Gigan (1972)

Alien roaches try to take over earth with King Ghidorah and Gigan. Gigan is one of the craziest looking monsters, kind of a giant Grasshopper with one eye, long hook hands, horns and a buzz saw in its stomach. Its one of those so corny and bad that its great. Anguirus shows up and talks to Godzilla, so odd and Anguirus is a bitch, he always gets his ass kicked in these movies.

  1. King Kong vs Godzilla (1962)

The ultimate showdown of the world’s two most popular giant monsters. Not too much for story here, just a battle between Godzilla and King Kong. As a kid I didn’t like this because Godzilla loses, but now I enjoy what it is.

  1. Invasion of Astro-Monster AKA Monster Zero (1965)

Godzilla and Rodan and brought to space by aliens to battle King Ghidorah on Planet X. The only Godzilla battle to take place anywhere but earth. The aliens take control of Godzilla and Rodan to destroy earth. The monsters break the control and battle.

  1. Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster (1964)

A giant gold, three headed dragon comes from space and battles with Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan for the fate of the world. King Ghidorah is introduced, probably the most iconic Godzilla villain, he is just badass looking. Cmon! A three headed gold dragon that shoots lighting from its mouth, just cool!

  1. Godzilla (1954)

A giant radioactive lizard comes to Tokyo and destroys everything in its path. Mankind scrambles to stop it but the monster is too strong for normal weapons. They rely on the oxygen destroyer to wipe out the beast. The one that started it all, it is a masterpiece in giant monster cinema.

  1. Godzilla vs The Thing (1964)

A giant blue egg appears and the people are baffled on what could be inside. Godzilla shows up, still a bad guy destroying Tokyo. They get the help of two fairies to hatch the egg which they find out is actually Mothra. The egg hatches into two small caterpillars with snare Godzilla in web.

  1. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974)

Green faced ape like aliens create a robot version of Godzilla to attempt to take over the world. The real Godzilla has to save mankind from the aliens. I watched this one probably 50 times as a kid and even brought it to my class to watch in elementary school, not sure why the teacher actually played it haha.
